Truth behind attack on Libya's Gaddafi.. a friend's message...

I stayed in Libya for eight years. My wife used to treat the woman who was the wife of so called "Ustad of Gaddafi", M. Mohammed Khalil. He rarely visited any foreigner's house but did come to our house on some occasions. We were frequent visitor to his house. We knew many who were very close to Gaddafi and who actually provided Gaddafi the money to get educated as he came from a poor family. I do not think if any Arab or Muslim leader other than Mustafa Kemal Ataturk can be compared with him. All the money Libya made went in to building schools, hospitals, agriculture. I was the expert member in the medical board awarding pension and all poor and destitute were given pension. Infrastructure was superb and with 10 per cent of our salary we paid house rent, for the best food, the petrol and electricity. No murders, thefts, or muggings. Traffic cops won't spare even the most influential.

He argued the present form of democracy was a sham as the one who wins, gets just 15-20 per cent vote and does not truly represent the wishes of the people. Top bureaucrats were instructed to keep the rooms open so that any one could walk in. Rice, sugar, flour, oil, salt, and butter, were subsidized so that poor did not suffer. Sugar and flour cost just paise a kilo so much so that we used to buy a 100 kg sack of sugar. The people were boisterous and rough in behaviour but generous. Great respect was given to Indians specially the doctors. The real surprise was when ever I walked in to the room of my health minister, he will half get up as a mark of respect. I have never seen that happening any where in India. The bureaucrats were very courteous.

Gaddafi was a ruthless leader and I once asked a highly educated Palestinian surgeon how come Gaddafi behaved like that? His answer was "most Libyans either had no education or were poorly educated, and some were religious bigots. Giving them freedom might create chaos" That is the way they need to be ruled over. Something akin was said by Subhash Bose who had said if he became the ruler he will put India under dictatorship for 10 years. I have heard that but can not say with certainty if that was so.

No purda and no Talaq by repeating the words three times. Both had to agree to secure separation. He was some what anti rich and very rightly as the rich usually exploit. There may be exceptions.
It is a sad day as the western media and governments for the sake of petrol have conspired to oust him. He was opposed to their dictates of selling cheap oil.

His only fault was that he did support many terrorist groups in Philippines, and other places as he was a revolutionary to the core and treated them and regarded these terrorists as an exploited and suppressed lot. He has been vilified by western media like Saddam Hussein. Many times more lives have been lost after Saddam was removed. He was also ruthless and ruled with iron hands. One can see how difficult it is to contain violent people and some times means may be wrong but the end justifies that. History is written by powerful and victors not by the vanquished. So west may pour vitriol on Gaddafi.
There were bigger tyrants than Gaddafi and Saddam. Idi Amin of Uganda and Bokasa of Central Africa but they were left undisturbed as they had no oil.

I once asked one of my friends brother in Libya who was a professor and renowned pediatrician in a tertiary care Zurich hospital telling him how lucky Arabs were to have such a wonderful life with petrol dollars. His answer keeps ringing in my ears. He quipped “ I wish we had no oil as the west has made our lives miserable for the sake of oil. Our ancestors had no petrol but were a happy lot
The truth of the matter is, if any country in the world has any precious commodity or natural wealth that can make the living for westerns better, the Anglo-Saxons will make their life hell, and will plunder, create chaos and get a foot hold to enslave that country.

For those who understood Gaddafi, it would be difficult to have a brave person like him again, who single handed took on these western barbarians and never surrendered to them.
Where ever he is, and if he is, I wish him all the best.
